Privacy Policy — Avery

Avery ("the app", "we", "us") is a street treasure-finding game where players post
photos of free items they find on the street and discover spots posted by others
nearby. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and how you can
control it.
Information we collect
- Account information — when you sign in with Google or with
email/password, we receive your email address and the display name associated
with your account, via Firebase Authentication.
- Pirate name — a display name you choose inside the app, shown
publicly on the treasures you post instead of your real name.
- Location — your device's GPS position, used to show nearby
treasure spots on the map, to record where a treasure you post is located, and to
match you for "a treasure appeared nearby" push notifications.
- Photos — photos you choose to take or pick when posting a
treasure spot. These are uploaded to our storage and shown to other players.
- Push notification token — a device identifier used by Firebase
Cloud Messaging to deliver notifications to your device, together with your
last-known location so we can tell whether a notification is relevant to you.
- In-app activity — the treasures you post or update, and your
"berries" balance (an in-app reward count with no real-world monetary value).
How we use your information
- To show treasure spots on the map and in the list, and your distance to them.
- To analyze photos you submit using Google's Gemini AI, which reads the photo to
suggest a name, description, and item tags for the spot. Photos are sent to
Google's AI service for this purpose.
- To send you a push notification when a treasure appears or changes near your
last-known location, if you've turned notifications on.
- To attribute the treasures you post to your chosen pirate name.
- To operate account features such as signing in, awarding berries, and account
deletion.
Who we share it with
Avery is built on Google Firebase. Your data is processed and stored using Firebase
Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Firebase Cloud
Messaging, and Firebase AI (Gemini) — all operated by Google under Firebase's own
terms and security practices. We do not sell your personal information to anyone,
and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Your choices and data deletion
You can permanently delete your account at any time from
Account → Delete account inside the app. This removes your profile
and any treasure spots only you posted. If a spot you posted was later updated by
someone else, your name is removed from it rather than deleting the spot other
players are relying on. You can also turn push notifications off at any time from
the map screen.
Children's privacy
Avery is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided
us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use Firebase's security rules and encrypted connections to protect your data in
transit and at rest. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we
work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use
of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
